Jiskoot Sampling Equipments

A correctly taken physical sample from a proven sampling system provides a guarantee of quality that cannot be refuted. Jiskoot have twenty five years experience of the design, manufacture and supply of products and systems for liquid and gas sampling. We are the only manufacturer to offer a complete range of stand-alone products, equipment and custom designed solutions covering the whole range of sampling applications. Our systems are all designed to international standards and are supplied with a performance guarantee.

Jiskoot equipment is designed to provide the highest accuracy, reliability and repeatability. This provides simple to maintain solutions that deliver low operating, maintenance and lifecycle costs. Jiskoot have supplied systems to BP-Amoco, Texaco, Total, Conoco, Shell, Petronas and most other major producers and have a global installed base of over 1500 systems.

The design and installation of a sampling system is a complex process requiring consideration of the following points:

What international standards determine how a sampling system must be designed and proven to be acceptable by buyers or sellers globally?

The ISO 3171, IP 6.2 and API 8.2 standards cover the requirements of 'Sampling liquid hydrocarbons in pipelines'. Each of these has slightly different requirements for system design and proving and it is crucial to understand how each affects an application.

Where should the sampling system be installed in relation to the custody transfer or quality measurement point and how can this bias a sample?

Location of the sample extraction point is crucial to system performance. Incorrect siting can result in biased samples and a potentially large volume of un-sampled fluids that may contaminate a following batch. Have you also considered the practical requirements of operating the system, how easy is it to access and operate?

Are the pipeline contents sufficiently well mixed that a sample taken from the central third of the pipe is representative of a cross section of the whole pipeline?

Are the fluids mixed at your lowest flow rates when most stratification occurs (i.e. water separation)? Will a mixer induce a large pressure drop in your system at high flow rates? How does a change in viscosity affect the required mixing and pressure drop?

How can I design a system that will take a sample that is representative of the whole batch delivered and not biased?

Each sample taken must represent a fixed proportion of fluids that has passed through the pipeline across the whole flow range of the batch.

How should the samples be handled in order to minimise the risk of cross contamination, settling and loss of light ends prior to analysis?

Do the samples need maintaining at a constant pressure or under an inert gas blanket to prevent loss of light ends? How will the sampling system be purged between batches to avoid cross contamination?

How should the system be designed to minimise the potential errors that can be introduced whilst analysing the samples? How can I ensure that the sub-sample analysed is representative of the whole batch?

How will the sample receiver be mixed prior to extraction of a sub-sample?
How will the sample be transferred to the analyser?
What analysis methods will be used?

How can the system be proven and certified to meet the above criteria?

A sampling system needs proving once installed. Only then can you prove and certify that the system performs as specified. Who will design the proving system? Who will perform and witness the testing?

Technical papers discussing all of the above issues are available at our FlowQuip Head Office.

The Jiskoot range of engineered solutions for sampling applications includes the following:

In-line automatic sampling system
An in-line system offers a lower cost solution for automatic sampling. Using insertion probe technology, our systems are designed for 4" to 52" pipelines. Jiskoot probes are robust enough to be inserted into the central area of the pipeline (as required by international standards) and all utilise a unique three-stage positive displacement action giving accurate samples irrespective of variations in pressure or fluid viscosity. Samples from the probe can be discharged into high or low pressure receivers and a sample controller can be included with the system offering full reporting and integration with a plant-wide control system.
Jet-Mix®
The Jet-Mix® provides the ideal solution to non-homogenous pipeline contents, giving regulated mixing regardless of flow rates. As the system is external to the pipeline, and removable, installation and maintenance of both the system and the pipeline can be carried out without shutdown or disruption to operations.

Unlike traditional mixers, Jet-Mix takes up minimal space inside the line compared to other mixers and has no discernible pressure drop even at extremely high flow rates.

Fast-loop automatic sampling system
Developed in response to the need for increased accuracy and maintainability, a fast-loop sampling system provides highly accurate sampling across a wide range of fluids. Simple to maintain and producing more representative samples than traditional in-line systems, a Jiskoot fast-loop system is the perfect solution for high accuracy sampling applications.

Jiskoot full diameter 'cell' samplers are mounted in a bypass loop to provide high accuracy sampling and simple maintenance. Cell samplers feature the same positive displacement action as Jiskoot probes but benefit from a smaller volume retained within the sampler resulting in a reduced risk of contamination.

Co-Jetix® automatic sampling system
Developed to simplify installation and reduce size for fast-loop systems which need mixing, the Co-Jetix is a combined fast-loop and Jet-Mix system. Both systems have a number of common parts and these are combined into a single skid for simplicity. A Co-Jetix system has all of the features of a fast-loop system and offers the best accuracy available for water recovery or non homogeneous liquid sampling.
Sampling and analysis systems
The high accuracy provided by a fast-loop or Co-Jetix system allows Jiskoot to incorporate analysers within the fast-loop and deliver extremely accurate analysis results. The majority of Jiskoot sampling systems can be installed and maintained without pipeline shut down. Jiskoot offer the most reliable and repeatable solutions for high accuracy liquid and gas sampling and handling.
Sampling system accessories and products
Jiskoot manufacture a full range of products, which can be purchased for inclusion within existing systems. The 210 and 710 range of cell and probe samplers are the most reliable in the world and are available with pneumatic, hydraulic and electric actuation. Jiskoot PR53 and 23 sample receivers have an integral mixing facility allowing the use of a LabMix prior to extracting sub-samples for analysis.
The InSight controller provides system monitoring, alarms and reporting through a simple touchscreen interface. Jiskoot also supply a system to mix, cool, analyse and report the results to a PC logging system, the LabPC, and manufacture a cleaning system to rinse used receivers for re-use. Jiskoot are unique in offering the products, expertise and manufacturing capabilities to provide a sampling solution that is proven to the international standards with a performance guarantee. From product to turnkey system, Jiskoot have a solution for your sampling needs.
